Senior System Administrator
Where will you be working when the world discovers its first signal?
The mission of the SETI Institute is to explore, understand and explain the origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe. We believe we are conducting the most profound search in human history – to discover our beginnings and our place among the stars. The SETI Institute is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to scientific research, education, and public outreach. Founded in 1984, the Institute has grown to become a world center for Astrobiology, today employing over 140 scientists, educators and support staff.
We are looking for an exceptional, self-starter Linux/Unix Administrator to take responsibility for our DMZ, and internal Linux/Unix hosts. This position will be filled by an individual who can:
- Communicate efficiently and effectively with technical and non-technical individuals (be prepared to demonstrate)
- Learn quickly, and execute job responsibilities with authority and confidence
- Adapt gracefully to changing internal dynamics
Candidate will have considerable experience in:
- System architecture
- Networking, and Network troubleshooting (knowledge of the OSI Stack, VLAN, QOS, Spanning Tree, etc)
- LAMP Stack, DNS (bind 9, tinydns a plus), etc
- Open LDAP as an enterprise authentication back-end
- Security [implementation, and theory] (CISSP or other security certification a plus)
- Solaris 7,8,9 proficiency
- (Postfix, mailman, courier-imap-ssl,sasl,pam)+ldap
The successful candidate will also have:
- Experience with Gentoo Linux
- Multicast and 10GbE experience
- Network monitoring and IDS (snort, zabbix, mrtg, etc) experience
- Familiarity with and contribution to the open source community
