Dr. Seth Shostak Receives the Klumpke-Roberts Award

Dr. Seth Shostak was the recipient of the prestigious Klumpke-Roberts award this past month given by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. This award was established by astronomer Dorothea Klumpke-Roberts, and recognizes outstanding contributions to the public understanding and appreciation of astronomy.
Some of the previous award winners include Carl Sagan, Andrew Fraknoi, and Isaac Asimov. Over the past years, Seth has been providing the public with lectures as well as his weekly radio show,Are We Alone?. Moreover Seth has been known around the world for his numerous magazine and newspaper articles, video productions, books, and television appearances. Dr. Shostak brings astronomy to life through his sense of humor and the relevancy of the subject to people’s lives.
Seth has a BA in physics from Princeton and a PhD in astronomy from Caltech. But he's also responsible for much of the outreach activities of the Institute. He teaches a half-dozen informal education classes on astronomy and other topics in the Bay Area.
Before coming to SETI, Seth did research work on galaxies using radio telescopes at observatories and universities in America and Europe. His avocations include photography, filmmaking, and electronics. He is also a familiar force in the outreach activities of the Institute.
