In 1960, he conducted the first radio search for extraterrestrial intelligence at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia. He is the creator of the Drake equation, and former Director of the School of Science a the University of California at Santa Cruz. more

While at HP, he was the General Manager of the Frequency and Time Division (later became the Santa Clara Division). He also served as Engineering Manager of HPs Electronic Instruments Group. more

Joel Birnbaum

Joel Birnbaum served on the SETI Institute Board of Trustees from 2005 - 2010, and was Vice Chair in 2009. Birnbaum was named HP Vice President and Director of HP Labs in 1984, and served as the Senior Technical Advisor at HP from 1999 - 2007.  more

Christopher Chyba

Christopher Chyba is Professor of Astrophysics and International Affairs at Princeton University, and the Co-Director of the Program on Science and Global Security at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Chyba was also Director of the Carl Sagan Center for the Study of Life in the Universe from 1998 - 2004. In 2001, he was named a MacArthur Fellow. more
