Andrew Fraknoi is the Chair of the Astronomy Department at Foothill College in Los Altos, California. Fraknoi was the Carnegie Endowment for Higher Education's 2007 California Professor of the Year. He was the founding co-editor of the journal "Astronomy Education Review," is lead author of the "Voyages Through the Universe" college textbooks series, and was Executive Director of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific for 14 years. more

In 1960, he conducted the first radio search for extraterrestrial intelligence at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia.
