Karl Schweighofer

I am the lead bioinformatics scientist for the NASA Center for Astrobioinformatics (NCA). I am responsible for the planning and development of the resource, and develop computational algorithms for the analysis of various types of biological data. I performed the primary computational analysis of gene expression data resulting from experiments flown aboard flight STS-108. This study is aimed at characterizing the effects of microgravity on metabolic, and gene regulatory pathways. I am also participating in the molecular characterization of a novel ATP binding protein, aimed at understanding the molecular mechanisms of ligand binding, and methods to re-engineer binding sites in proteins.
